Find out if you can work off campus as an international student
Based on your answers, you may work off campus without a work permit as long as you
- have started studying
- do not work more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions
- are a full-timeFootnote 5 student at your school or you are a part-time student in your last semester
- stay enrolled in an academicFootnote 2, vocationalFootnote 3 or professional trainingFootnote 4 program that is 6 months or longer and that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate
- have a social insurance number
You may be able to work more than 20 hours per week off campus
Between November 15, 2022, and December 31, 2023, you can work more than 20 hours per week off campus if you’re eligible.
Based on your answers, you may not work off campus without a work permit. To do so, you must request a change to your study permit so that it reflects the proper conditions to work off campus, and then apply for a SIN from Service Canada.

You can only work off campus if you meet the criteria. Otherwise, you need to get a valid work permit.
