Minister Diab: “I’m Lena Metlege Diab, Canada’s Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. March is Fraud Prevention Month. As technologies continue to evolve, fraudsters are seeking ways to exploit people hoping to come to Canada. Our government will continue to take strong actions to detect, deter and prevent immigration and citizenship fraud.

In 2025, we introduced new legislation to strengthen Canada’s immigration and asylum systems. We’re creating tougher penalties for dishonest, fraudulent and unlicensed immigration representatives. Our highly trained officers are experts at detecting fraud—starting a new investigation every minute of every day. They detect and stop problems before they start.

We’re tackling fraud head on. We’re focused on an immigration system that protects Canadians and newcomers.”
