Based on your answers, you may work off campus without a work permit as long as you
- have started studying
- do not work more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions
Updates to off-campus work hours
Depending on the date we received your application, you may be able to work more than 20 hours per week off campus without a work permit until April 30, 2024. Find out if you’re eligible.
- are a full-timeFootnote 5 student at your school or you are a part-time student in your last semester
- stay enrolled in an academicFootnote 2, vocationalFootnote 3 or professional trainingFootnote 4 program that is 6 months or longer and that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate
- have a social insurance number
Based on your answers, you may not work off campus without a work permit. To do so, you must request a change to your study permit so that it reflects the proper conditions to work off campus, and then apply for a SIN from Service Canada.

You can only work off campus if you meet the criteria. Otherwise, you need to get a valid work permit.
