Fee changes

We update our fees occasionally to help us run our immigration and citizenship programs effectively. These changes are governed by legislation.

This page lists some recent fee changes and explains what to do if you paid an old fee by mistake.

2024-12-01: Inadmissibility fees increase

We increased the inadmissibility fees on December 1, 2024.

If you paid the old fees with your application

When you apply online, we receive your application immediately. Before you submit it, check that you paid the correct amount.

If you mail your application, there will be a delay between when you send it and when we receive it. The fees may change while it’s in the mail. In most cases, we won’t reject your application if

In this case, we’ll tell you how to pay the difference between the new and old fees.

If you waited to pay your right of permanent residence fee

If you applied without paying the right of permanent residence fee, you must pay the new amount. This applies even if you already paid the processing fee and applied before the fee change.

How to pay the fee difference

If you paid the old fee for your application, we’ll ask you to pay the difference and tell you how to submit your receipt.

To get your receipt:

  1. Calculate the fee difference
    • You must pay the difference between the old fee and the new fee.
    • You must pay the difference for each fee that changed, including those for family members.
  2. Make the payment
  3. Enter the amount
    • Under “Quantity”, enter the total fee difference.
    • You’ll get 1 receipt for each payment. You can pay all fees in 1 transaction or repeat this step for multiple receipts.
    • You must create an account or sign in to finish paying.
  4. Submit your receipt
    • Follow the instructions in the request we sent you.
