Note:
To be eligible to pay the maximum fee of $500 (in Canadian dollars):
- family members must all apply at the same time and same place
- your children must qualify as dependants
Citizens of certain countries and territories have to give their biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) when they apply for a visitor visa, study permit, or work permit. Find out if you need to give biometrics.

Note: The biometrics fee covers:
- collecting fingerprints and a digital photo
- moving your documents between our visa office and the VAC where you gave your biometrics
If your children qualify as dependants and need to give their biometrics, you can pay the family fee.
How to pay your fees
Pay and apply online
You’ll pay your fees directly within the online application (e-app) when you apply.
Make sure you have a credit or debit card ready.
This is the only way you can pay this fee when applying online.
There are 3 accounts to apply and pay for a visitor visa. The one you should use to apply depends on your situation.
What you need to pay your fees online
You can only use this option if submitting a paper application.
If you apply online, you can only pay when you submit your application through your account.
Do not exit without printing or saving the receipt! The receipt is your proof of payment!
- At the end, click on the “Save” button to save a PDF copy of the IRCC official receipt.
- Upload a copy of this receipt to your online application when asked.
Incorrect fee payment
Incorrect fee payments may delay processing.
Payment issue – No fee included
If you don’t pay the fee, we’ll return your application.
Once you pay your fees and return your application, we’ll start processing it.
Payment issue – Not enough fees included
If you underpay, we’ll return your application and tell you how much to pay.
Once you return your application with the correct fees, we’ll start processing it.
Payment issue – Overpayment
If you overpay, we’ll:
- start processing your application, and
- send you a refund automatically.
Payment issue – required biometric fee not included
If you didn’t pay the biometric fee, we’ll tell you:
- how much it is
- how to pay it
Once you send the missing fees we’ll continue processing your application.
